Although Santiago is a city that has diverse services, it
lacks public space, today we see that the priority is the construction of
apartments, there is even a shortage of houses, for the number of people we are
and there is no longer extensive land to be built horizontally. And the new way
you have is to build vertically in height, but that need also leaves aside
other essential elements in a city, such as public space, this is an important
element, since the natural encounter of the same people and the interaction
between them, is being lost. The city is not only heading to work, but the
public space serves us for a social integration, to have a sense of belonging
to the city, to feel part of it.
The city is also the space for meeting and exchanging, which
enriches urban practices and encourages the participation of citizens and their
interest in community issues.
Something I liked a lot was that they took out the fences of
the citizenship square in front of the Palacio de la Moneda, for me it was
ridiculous that a square that was named "of the citizenship" had
fences and nobody could use it of this, it looked like an insipid space, but
now people took ownership of that space and took on another character, now
there is a much more lively space and where anyone can go and sit in front of
the most important building in Chile.
I also think that santiago is nice but it also have bad things like pollution or bad public transport
ResponderBorrarYes there is a lack of public spaces, mainly i´ll say well planned and buiit green areas, where people are able to socialize and leave apart the routine and the daily life issues, whcih is very important for our sanity as human beings.
